Christine Friel, L.Ac., Owner & Clinical Director, Double Happiness Health, San Francisco

Every prospective patient lands on our site with their own questions and hesitations about acupuncture and what to expect. Working with Nicki and the Well•ish team gave us real insight into what those patients are actually looking for and concerned about when they are deciding whether to book. That lets us speak more directly to their needs and help them find answers faster, without putting any extra work on our admin team. Best of all, we've seen a meaningful increase in bookings as a result.

Local Wellness Case Study

Turning Health Intent Into Local Follow-Through

How a San Francisco acupuncture clinic used a first-visit preview path to turn existing local website traffic into more leads for booking.

Digital health tools, wearables, and longevity programs are giving people more health recommendations than ever: improve sleep, reduce pain, manage stress, recover postpartum, boost digestion, or build strength. That guidance can be valuable, but it also creates a new problem: follow-through.

People do not need one more task sitting at the bottom of their health to-do list. They need help turning their intent into action, especially when the next step requires finding trusted local experts. People often need to compare different options nearby, evaluate pricing (and insurance where applicable), and build trust in an expert’s services and approach for their concerns. As more people look for support, local wellness practitioners need to be ready to build trust.

Well•ish partnered with Double Happiness Health, a leading San Francisco acupuncture clinic, to test a First Visit Preview experience designed to help prospective clients feel more confident before booking a first visit. In practice, the experience gave prospective clients a personalized preview page for their concern before they booked, so they could understand what care might look like for their concern.

The key results included:

  • Paying first-visit bookings increased ~40% on average between the baseline and product-test period

During the product-test period, average paying first-visit bookings were about 40% higher than during the baseline period. The largest increase came from online bookings, while free consult volume stayed steady. This was the clearest business signal: during this period, the clinic captured more value from the traffic already coming to the site, without relying on more paid ads, more posting, or a major increase in local visitor volume.

  • The First Visit Preview helped nearly 1 in 2 first-time local visitors take a booking-related action

After the First Visit Preview was added, the site engaged closer to half of local first-time visitors across header booking clicks and First Visit Preview activity, up from the baseline period. This suggests the preview path gave visitors who were still deciding another meaningful way to engage before scheduling. Importantly, header booking clicks remained consistent with baseline, which means the First Visit Preview appeared to expand the booking-related lead pool rather than replace visitors who wanted to book right away.

  • The clinic uncovered new demand areas from prospective clients different from their primary positioning in women’s health

The preview also surfaced useful demand signals. For example, as a women's health acupuncture clinic, Double Happiness Health saw strong interest from visitors experiencing chronic pain, revealing demand beyond the clinic's primary positioning. These insights can inform service pages, practitioner bios, homepage messaging, follow-up paths, and future offers.

Methodology note: This was a pre/post study comparing a 49-day baseline period with a 78-day product-test period, excluding the Mother’s Day promotional period. The analysis measured paying first-visit bookings and first-time local visitor engagement across hundreds of first-time local visitors. Because appointment volume varied week to week and the comparison periods were different lengths, booking results were normalized using 7-day averages. Median weekly bookings were also reviewed as a directional check to confirm the lift was not driven only by a few unusually strong weeks
